The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects in connection with a widely shared kidnapping incident in Akure, Ondo State, and rescued three victims during subsequent police operations.
The development follows public attention over footage showing armed assailants abducting a woman.
The case drew significant attention after a video circulated online showing a woman being forcibly taken by armed assailants in the Oda area of Akure.
The footage, which showed the abduction in front of the woman’s young child, prompted security investigators to act.
The incident is one of several kidnapping and security concerns reported in parts of Ondo State and Nigeria in recent months, with security agencies frequently involved in operations to arrest suspects and recover victims.
According to a statement issued by the Ondo State Police Command, officers identified and arrested three individuals believed to be involved in the kidnapping after investigations and field operations.
The command said the arrests followed careful examination of the video evidence and intelligence gathering.
The police said the three suspects are being held in custody as part of ongoing investigations into the case. The identities of the suspects have not been officially disclosed pending further verification and legal processes.
In addition to the arrests, police said they successfully rescued three victims who had been taken during the incident.
The command said the rescued individuals were handed over to appropriate authorities for medical check‑ups and support.
The Ondo State Police Command said it deployed personnel to relevant locations in Akure and surrounding areas as part of its response to the incident.
The command said efforts continue to identify any additional persons involved and to ensure that victims receive necessary care.
Law enforcement officials emphasised that the command remains committed to addressing kidnapping and related crimes in the state through intelligence‑led operations.
The arrest follows a series of security efforts in Ondo State, including recent actions by police and other security agencies to address kidnapping, robbery and other violent crimes.
A separate report by the police noted the arrest of hundreds of criminal suspects for various offences earlier in the year.
