President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has recovered, while improved coordination among security and intelligence agencies is producing better results in the fight against insecurity. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday after leading the National Communications Team to a meeting with the President in Abuja.
The delegation included members of the Presidential Media Team and heads of major government information agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Voice of Nigeria (VON) and National Orientation Agency (NOA).
Idris said the meeting provided an opportunity to review public perceptions of government policies and receive guidance from the President on the administration’s communication strategy.
According to him, the engagement also enabled communication officials to convey citizens’ reactions to government policies directly to Tinubu. He said the President maintained that the economic reforms introduced by his administration were beginning to produce measurable results and were laying the foundation for sustained growth.
“The president has told us several times the economy is turning the corner. We now know that the economy has turned the corner,” Idris said.
The minister’s comments suggest that the administration believes its economic measures are moving beyond the adjustment phase and beginning to deliver broader benefits.
On insecurity, Idris said Tinubu expressed confidence that ongoing security operations were yielding improved outcomes despite continuing challenges in some parts of the country. He attributed the progress to closer cooperation among security and intelligence agencies under the President’s leadership.
“Government is strategising and working with the security agencies. You can see the better coordination this time around,” he said.
According to Idris, the President remains focused on restoring peace and strengthening collaboration among the agencies responsible for national security.
The minister said Tinubu also emphasised the need for sustained communication with Nigerians to ensure that government policies are properly understood.
He said feedback from citizens would continue to play a role in shaping government decisions and improving public communication. Idris added that the President reaffirmed his commitment to press freedom while reminding journalists that freedom comes with an obligation to report responsibly.
“The media will continue to have freedom to do their work. But freedom also has to come with responsibility,” he said.
The President, according to Idris, also called for stronger cooperation between government and the media to tackle fake news, misinformation and disinformation.
The minister said the challenge had become more pressing with the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and its growing influence on how information is created and distributed. The administration’s latest communication push comes as Tinubu seeks to reinforce public understanding of his policies while highlighting what officials describe as progress in the Nigeria economy recovery and security coordination.
