The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the 33.5-kilometre Elele-Omoku Road is nearing completion and will be inaugurated in May 2026.
He disclosed this after inspecting the ongoing project across several local government areas.
The Elele-Umudioga–Egbeda–Ubimini-Ikiri–Omoku Road project cuts across Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas in Rivers State.
The road corridor has been described as a major link connecting communities within the state.
According to the governor, the project forms part of the administration’s infrastructure programme aimed at expanding the road network and improving connectivity within the state.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara stated that the project has reached about 90 percent completion. He added that the remaining work is expected to be completed before the end of April.
He said:
“From my assessment, about 90 per cent of the job is already done.”
The governor described the road as one of the signature projects of his administration, noting that it is designed to improve transportation and economic activities across the state.
Siminalayi Fubara also highlighted the security importance of the road, recalling past incidents along the route.
He stated:
“This road used to be a death trap. Kidnappings and other crimes were common.”
He added that improved access along the corridor would support security operations and reduce criminal activities in the area.
The governor further noted that the project is expected to support economic activities in Omoku, which he described as a major hub in the state.
During the inspection, the governor commended the contractor for the pace and quality of work, including progress on a bridge component of the project.
He expressed confidence that the remaining work would be completed ahead of the scheduled inauguration.
