During a visit to Abuja, Aliyu meets new IGP as Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State pledged enhanced support to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in their ongoing fight against banditry and criminality.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing logistics and operational support.
The occasion when Aliyu meets new IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who recently assumed leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, underscored coordinated federal‑state efforts to address insecurity, particularly in northwest Nigeria where banditry has been a persistent challenge.
At the meeting, discussions centred on the state of security, inter‑agency cooperation, and ways to strengthen operational effectiveness in addressing violent crime and protecting lives and property across Sokoto State and surrounding regions.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, speaking through a statement issued by his Director‑General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa, said his administration has consistently provided support to security agencies.
He explained that this includes procuring and distributing more than 200 patrol vehicles to bolster patrols and curb banditry, particularly in areas most affected by insecurity.
Emphasising the collective responsibility of protecting citizens, the governor told the Inspector‑General of Police that enhanced intelligence gathering and improved information sharing among all security formations are essential to the success of counter‑crime operations.
Abubakar Aliyu further underscored the importance of strong synergy among security agencies to sustain recent progress against criminal groups.
During the Aliyu meets new IGP visit, the governor also commended the contribution of the former Commissioner of Police in Sokoto, Ahmed Musa, now elevated to Assistant Inspector‑General of Police, for his “brave, disciplined, and committed” service in tackling insecurity.
He urged the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to continue the work with similar dedication.
In response, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu thanked Governor Aliyu for the ongoing support and assured him of the police’s continued collaboration with state authorities to make Sokoto State secure for citizens and visitors alike.
He described the gesture as reinforcing the critical partnership between state leadership and national security forces.
The meeting where Aliyu meets new IGP highlights the growing effort by state executives to strengthen security frameworks and back federal institutions in combating complex criminal threats like banditry.
Observers note that such collaboration between state governments and security agencies could lead to improved responsiveness to attacks, better deployment of personnel and equipment, and deeper engagement with local communities to gather critical intelligence.
The pledge of support may also set a precedent for other states affected by insecurity to take proactive roles in resourcing and supporting security operations at the state level.
