The mutilated corpse of a woman has been discovered near a stream inside the Wildlife Park Forest Reserve in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The discovery was reported at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday after security operatives were alerted to the incident.
According to security sources, the woman’s family had reportedly begun searching for her after she failed to return home. Her body was subsequently found near a stream within the forest reserve.
The corpse was reportedly found with injuries on the arm and face that appeared consistent with machete cuts. However, the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death had not been established at the time of filing the report.
A staff member of the park, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said workers discovered the body and immediately alerted security personnel.
“We woke up and discovered the body and immediately contacted the security operatives,” the staff member said.
He explained that security personnel arrived at the scene and began an initial assessment while efforts were made to determine what had occurred.
Security authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, including whether criminal activity was involved.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the security operatives were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
