The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected vehicle theft kingpin, identified as 28-year-old Mosuru Issa, and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Issa, who resides on Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, was arrested by operatives of the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Mowe axis of the expressway.

According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Friday when three occupants of the wine-coloured Toyota Camry allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled after sighting the officers.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday. He said the behaviour of the occupants raised the officers’ suspicion and prompted them to give chase.

“Three occupants, on sighting the police, suddenly abandoned the vehicle and fled in different directions, raising suspicion,” the statement said.

The police said the ensuing pursuit led to Issa’s arrest, while officers secured and recovered the abandoned vehicle.

Preliminary investigation reportedly showed that the Toyota Camry had been stolen on September 7, 2026, from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.

The command said efforts were ongoing to identify and locate the vehicle’s owner, as well as apprehend the two other occupants who escaped during the incident.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their vigilance and prompt response.

Ojajuni also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained operations against vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the state.

The command said the recovery underscored the importance of routine patrols and lawful stop-and-search operations in detecting suspected criminal activity and recovering stolen property.

The police further warned criminals against using highways in Ogun as escape routes, while assuring residents that security operations would be intensified across the state.

Vehicle owners were also advised to take additional precautions when parking in public or unsecured areas. The command recommended measures such as tyre locks, steering locks and other appropriate anti-theft devices.
