Concerns about internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party have intensified following recent legal and political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party members and political observers have pointed to ongoing leadership disputes and organisational challenges within the opposition party.

Near the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, local party supporters described declining grassroots mobilisation during recent political activities.

One supporter, Musa Sani, said many campaign posters produced for the Federal Capital Territory council elections remained unused due to reduced enthusiasm among party members.

According to the report, the internal dispute within the party has been building for several months.

Political disagreements among party leaders and factions have contributed to uncertainty within the organisation.

The situation escalated after the Court of Appeal of Nigeria delivered a ruling in Abuja that upheld an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court of Nigeria. The court nullified the November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan.

The convention had produced Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as national chairman of the party. The ruling effectively invalidated the leadership outcome of that convention and intensified debate within party ranks over its organisational direction.

The dispute over leadership positions and party structure has continued to affect internal cohesion within the opposition party.

The internal issues within the Peoples Democratic Party have also attracted public discussion about the party’s readiness ahead of the 2027 elections in Nigeria.

The role of prominent political figures, including Nyesom Wike, has been part of wider political debate surrounding the party’s current challenges.

However, the report notes that disagreements within the party’s leadership and organisational structure remain central factors in the ongoing crisis.

The court ruling and continued internal disputes have raised questions about the party’s organisational stability.

Political observers say resolving leadership disagreements and rebuilding internal unity will be important for the party as it prepares for future elections.
