Digital financial services provider OPay has dismissed viral OPay shutdown reports claiming that the fintech would suspend operations from Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The report, which circulated widely across social media, alleged that OPay would embark on an indefinite break and stop processing transactions and account-related services.
The viral message also advised customers to withdraw their funds before the purported shutdown, triggering concerns among some users.
However, OPay has rejected the claim, describing it as false and malicious.
The company assured customers that there was no plan to suspend its services or halt operations.
In a social media post on Sunday, the fintech said, “OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!”
The company also urged customers to be wary of unofficial messages circulating online, particularly those involving their finances and accounts.
According to OPay, customers can identify genuine communications by checking whether they originate from the company’s verified platforms.
“True OPay users know how to identify our official communications. Take a closer look at the viral post, and you’ll spot the red flags,” the company stated.
The fintech further advised members of the public to verify information before sharing it, especially when the information could cause unnecessary concern among customers.
“Always verify before you share. Filter the noise!” it added.
The clarification comes amid renewed attention surrounding the OPay shutdown reports, which had prompted some users to question whether the company was preparing to suspend its financial services.
OPay, however, maintained that its operations remain ongoing and encouraged customers to disregard the circulating message.
The company also urged users to rely on its verified social media accounts and other authorised communication channels for accurate information.
“Follow our official pages for authentic OPay updates,” the fintech stated.
Customers were therefore advised to confirm any announcement concerning OPay’s services through the company’s official platforms rather than relying on unverified social media posts.
