Obi and Jonathan meeting has been described as productive by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi following his engagement with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja. The Obi and Jonathan discussion focused on Nigeria’s future, with emphasis on unity, security, and governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting is part of ongoing consultations among political stakeholders as the country gradually approaches the 2027 election cycle. Political figures across party lines have continued to engage in dialogue aimed at shaping national discourse and policy direction.
Peter Obi has maintained a series of consultations with leaders across regions, often focusing on economic reform, governance, and national development. Goodluck Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, continues to play a role in political and diplomatic engagements.
Speaking after the meeting, Obi described the engagement as “productive,” noting that discussions were centred on Nigeria’s pressing challenges. He stated that the talks were “frank, thoughtful, and anchored on the urgent need to reposition Nigeria on the path of unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance.”
He explained that the Obi and Jonathan engagement forms part of broader consultations with stakeholders aimed at addressing economic hardship, insecurity, and social divisions across the country.
“At a time when our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and deepening social divisions, it has become imperative that leaders across regions come together to reflect, consult, and act in the overall interest of the Nigerian people,” Obi said.
He added that leadership should be guided by “competence, character, capacity, and compassion,” stressing that governance must focus on creating value rather than sharing limited resources. Obi also described the 2027 elections as a critical opportunity for national reset, urging stakeholders to prioritise policies that address citizens’ needs.
The Obi and Jonathan meeting reflects increasing political consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, with emphasis on cross-regional dialogue and governance reform.
Such engagements may influence political alignments and policy discussions as stakeholders seek common ground on national issues. The meeting also highlights the role of experienced political figures in shaping discourse on unity and development.
