Panic has gripped parts of Kwara State following a Kwara terrorist attack that led to the abduction of eight worshippers, forcing residents of the affected community to flee their homes.

The Kwara terrorist attack occurred in Omugo community, located in Oro-Ago District of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The incident has intensified fear among residents, many of whom have abandoned their homes over concerns of further attacks.

Community members said insecurity has persisted in the area, with repeated threats creating tension and disrupting daily life.

According to local sources, the Kwara terrorist attack took place about 18 days ago when armed men invaded a worship centre during a Sunday service.

The attackers stormed the Evangelical Church Winning All and abducted eight elderly worshippers.

Following the incident, fear of another strike has forced residents to flee the community in large numbers.

Reports indicate that only local vigilantes and hunters remain behind to safeguard abandoned properties.

Speaking during a press briefing in Ilorin, a community representative, Jimoh Olaitan, described the situation as dire, noting that the town has been largely deserted.

He said: “Omugo community is deserted. People are moving out in droves. If you go there now, you will only meet vigilantes and hunters who are securing the property left behind.”

Olaitan also raised concerns over the absence of security personnel in the area, despite the presence of a police post.

Community leaders disclosed that the abductors initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion but later reduced it to N150 million. They insisted that payment must be made before the victims would be released.

Residents have appealed to the Kwara State Government to intervene urgently, strengthen security presence, and support efforts to rescue the abducted worshippers.

Olaitan called for coordinated action, urging authorities to deploy inter-agency security measures to restore confidence in the area.

The Kwara terrorist attack highlights ongoing security challenges in rural communities, where limited security presence has left residents vulnerable to attacks and kidnappings.

The displacement of residents has also disrupted economic and social activities, with many families unable to return to their homes due to fear.
