The El-Rufai released ICPC custody development was confirmed on Friday as former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, regained freedom after being held by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

The disclosure was made by his son, Bashir El-Rufai, who announced the release via a social media post.

The El-Rufai released ICPC custody update follows weeks of detention after the former governor was taken into custody on February 18 over allegations bordering on financial misconduct and related matters.

His detention formed part of ongoing investigations by the ICPC, one of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies mandated to handle cases involving public sector financial crimes.

The case had drawn public attention due to El-Rufai’s political profile and previous roles in government.

The former governor had earlier been linked to legal proceedings and investigative actions tied to his tenure, with authorities examining financial transactions and related allegations.

According to Bashir El-Rufai, the El-Rufai released ICPC custody development occurred on Friday, marking the end of his father’s detention period. In his statement shared on X, he wrote:

“My beloved great legend of a father (@elrufai) is being released from his unlawful and illegal detention…”

He further expressed appreciation for public support during the period of detention, stating that the family had “overcome” the situation.

As of the time of reporting, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had not issued an official statement clarifying the conditions or terms surrounding the release.

The El-Rufai released ICPC custody development also coincided with a personal loss within the family. Reports confirmed that his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, died earlier on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.

The El-Rufai released ICPC custody outcome introduces new developments in the ongoing legal and investigative process involving the former governor.

While the release signals a change in custody status, the absence of an official statement leaves uncertainty regarding the next steps in the case.

The situation also highlights broader issues surrounding high-profile investigations, detention procedures, and public communication by anti-corruption agencies.

Observers are likely to monitor further updates from the ICPC for clarity on the legal status of the case.
