Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed confidence that he could emerge victorious in any credible election in Nigeria if he ever decides to enter politics.

Despite his bold declaration, the award-winning singer insisted that he has no immediate plans to pursue political office, citing concerns about the transparency of Nigeria’s electoral system. Speaking during a recent livestream with content creator Carter Efe, Davido was asked whether he would consider contesting to govern a state.

Responding to the question, the music star said he would rather continue focusing on his entertainment career than participate in an electoral process he believes lacks credibility. According to him, the absence of transparency in elections discourages him from venturing into politics.

“Nigeria wey dem dey write result? I no get time for all those ones. Because I no be all those ones wey you go cheat me, I go go sleep for house. I will do something to you if you cheat me.”

Davido explained that he would only consider running for public office when he is convinced that elections are conducted fairly.

“Let me just focus on my music until there is transparency, then I can go ahead and contest for elective positions.”

Speaking further on his Davido political ambition, the singer declared that no rival could defeat him if Nigerians were allowed to vote in a genuinely free and fair election.

“Nobody can beat me in any election, never! In a free and fair election, I can win presidential election in Nigeria.” However, he maintained that the current electoral system remains the biggest obstacle to any political aspiration he may have.

“But because of the system, there is no transparency, they write results.”

Davido also revealed that he would be closely monitoring the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, a contest expected to attract national attention.

“I waiting to see what they will do in the upcoming Osun gubernatorial election. We are wailing.”

Politics has long been associated with the Adeleke family, with several members actively involved in public office. Nevertheless, Davido emphasised that, for now, his priority remains his music career, adding that any future Davido political ambition would depend largely on improvements in Nigeria’s electoral process and greater transparency in the conduct of elections.
