The media aide to former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, has dismissed recent criticisms directed at his principal, insisting that no amount of blackmail or coordinated political attacks can derail his growing influence ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Femi Awogboro said the increasing attention surrounding Adelabu 2027 ambition reflects the concerns of political opponents who view the former minister as a major contender in the race for Oyo State’s top office.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, Awogboro argued that attempts to undermine Adelabu are part of a familiar political playbook often deployed against influential politicians whose popularity continues to rise. According to him, history has shown that public criticism and media attacks do not necessarily determine electoral outcomes.
Awogboro drew parallels with President Bola Tinubu’s experience before the 2023 presidential election, noting that despite widespread criticism and opposition, Tinubu eventually secured victory at the polls. He maintained that the intensity of recent attacks against the former minister demonstrates his relevance in Oyo politics.
“If Adelabu was not a major factor in the political equation of Oyo State, nobody would be investing so much energy attacking him,” he stated.
The aide urged political observers to examine the timing of the criticisms, arguing that the growing conversation around Adelabu 2027 ambition coincides with increasing political activities ahead of the next election cycle. He questioned why many of the issues now being raised were not discussed years earlier.
According to him, the sudden emergence of critics as political activists suggests an attempt to slow down Adelabu’s momentum as preparations for 2027 gather pace. Awogboro expressed confidence that Oyo residents understand the political dynamics behind the attacks and would not be influenced by what he described as propaganda.
Defending the former minister’s credentials, Awogboro said Adelabu enjoys support from diverse segments of society, including youths, women, professionals and grassroots party members. He argued that such acceptance was earned through years of engagement, public service and political participation.
The aide highlighted Adelabu’s experience in banking, governance and the power sector, describing him as a leader with proven competence and administrative capacity. He added that discussions about Adelabu 2027 ambition should focus on policies, leadership qualities and development plans rather than personal attacks.
Awogboro also dismissed suggestions that the criticisms could weaken Adelabu’s standing within the APC. According to him, the support behind the former minister is driven by ordinary citizens who believe he possesses the vision and leadership qualities required to advance Oyo State’s development agenda.
He further predicted that some of Adelabu’s current critics could eventually become supporters as political realities evolve. The aide called on APC members across the state to remain united and avoid distractions that could create divisions within the party.
Adelabu formally declared his intention to contest the Oyo governorship election in May 2026 following his resignation as Minister of Power.
The former minister, who has previously contested for the governorship position twice under the APC platform, said his renewed bid is motivated by the need for stronger leadership, faster development and measurable governance outcomes in Oyo State. As political activities gradually build towards 2027, Adelabu 2027 ambition is expected to remain a major talking point within Oyo’s political landscape.
