Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing dissatisfaction with the party’s handling of its senatorial ticket for the 2027 elections. Fadeyi was among several lawmakers who previously defected from the PDP to the APC but was unsuccessful in securing the ruling party’s ticket for another term in the Senate.

The APC’s ticket for the Osun Central Senatorial District was won by Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), a development that triggered protests from some of Fadeyi’s supporters, who insisted the nomination should have been retained by the incumbent senator. While Fadeyi lost out, other lawmakers who moved from the PDP to the APC reportedly secured tickets to seek re-election. They include Senators Francis Fadahunsi and House of Representatives members Wole Oke, Taofeek Ajilesoro, and Sanya Omirin.

In his resignation letter, Fadeyi explained that his decision to leave the APC was influenced by what he described as the party’s failure to honour an earlier understanding that he would emerge as the consensus candidate for the Osun Central senatorial seat. According to him, he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Tinubu in his home state, believing assurances that his candidacy would receive the backing of the party.

He stated that he expected the party to uphold fairness, equity, mutual respect and internal democracy throughout the candidate selection process. However, he alleged that the eventual process departed from the agreed consensus arrangement and lacked transparency, leaving him with little confidence in the leadership of the APC in Osun State.

Fadeyi also expressed disappointment that although other lawmakers who defected alongside him secured return tickets, he was denied the opportunity to contest for another term under the APC. He said the outcome contributed significantly to his decision to leave the party and return to his former political platform.

Despite resigning from the APC, the senator emphasised that his departure should not be interpreted as opposition to President Tinubu or his administration.

He reaffirmed his support for the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda, insisting that his decision was driven solely by concerns over internal party processes rather than disagreement with the Federal Government. According to Fadeyi, his return to the PDP reflects his commitment to democratic principles and his desire to protect the political mandate entrusted to him by the people of Osun Central Senatorial District.
