The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Federal Government to provide a comprehensive explanation regarding the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), arguing that the issue has evolved beyond the actions of a single individual into a broader question of PFIPC public accountability. In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement said Nigerians deserve clear answers about the circumstances that led to the controversy.
According to the statement, the controversy has raised significant questions about transparency, credibility and accountability within public institutions. The group noted that although the Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC never existed and has distanced itself from individuals claiming to represent the body, reports indicating that more than ₦1 billion was allocated to an entity bearing the same or a similar name in the 2026 Appropriation Act require a detailed explanation.
The movement stated: “this controversy cannot simply be dismissed as the misconduct of one individual.”
It added that several issues remain unanswered.
“Nigerians are entitled to know: If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget? Who proposed and approved the allocation? Which government offices processed the documentation? Was any public money released or committed? If official documents were allegedly forged, how were they used for such a long period without detection?”
The movement emphasized that the questions surrounding the PFIPC public accountability issue should not be viewed through a partisan political lens. According to the statement: “these are not partisan questions. They are questions of public accountability.”
It argued that citizens have a legitimate interest in understanding how government institutions handled the matter and whether existing administrative safeguards functioned effectively.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement also linked the controversy to the Federal Government’s broader governance agenda. It noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu assumed office with commitments to institutional reforms, transparency and responsible governance.
According to the group: “the Tinubu administration came into office promising renewed hope, institutional reform and responsible governance. Those promises must now be measured against its willingness to provide full disclosure on this and other matters.” The movement said the manner in which the government addresses the controversy will influence public confidence in its reform commitments.
The group cautioned that conflicting explanations, silence or attempts to shift responsibility could weaken public trust in government institutions. It further argued that the controversy has implications beyond domestic politics, noting that international investors also consider the credibility and transparency of public institutions when assessing investment destinations. According to the statement, strong institutional accountability remains an important component of Nigeria’s reputation in the global investment environment.
As part of its recommendations, the Kwankwasiyya Movement urged the Presidency to publish a detailed account explaining: how the budgetary provision originated, the administrative processes involved, measures being implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The group also called on the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other statutory oversight institutions to conduct an independent investigation in accordance with the law. Concluding the statement, the movement maintained that the PFIPC public accountability issue requires a transparent resolution, stating:
“The Nigerian people deserve the truth, and they deserve it without delay.”
