Former Minister Uche Nnaji Receives Women Empowerment Award

Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has been honoured with the Women Empowerment Champion of the Year award in recognition of his contributions to the development and welfare of women in Nigeria.

The recognition was announced during the Her Excellence Awards 2026 held in Abuja.

The award ceremony celebrated individuals and organisations recognised for initiatives supporting women’s empowerment and inclusion.

The event also honoured 50 women described as outstanding for their achievements in various fields.

The recognition for Uche Geoffrey Nnaji followed his public service career and initiatives linked to programmes that promote participation and welfare for women in society.

The event formed part of activities highlighting contributions of women and advocates of gender inclusion across different sectors.

At the ceremony in Abuja, the former minister was represented by Basil Ani. During the event, he commended women for their role in family and national development.

According to a statement delivered on his behalf, he described women as pillars within the family and society and acknowledged their support throughout his years in public service.

“I am deeply honoured by this recognition. It is a reminder that empowering women is not just a policy objective but a moral and social responsibility that strengthens families, communities and the nation,” he said.

He added that women had remained important partners in national development and pledged continued support for initiatives that encourage inclusion and leadership opportunities for women.

“I will continue to lend my voice and support to initiatives that promote women’s inclusion, equal opportunities and leadership in all sectors of our national life,” he stated.

The ceremony attracted several public figures and advocates involved in gender inclusion and social development initiatives.

Attendees included former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, alongside representatives of foundations and organisations focused on women’s development.

Other dignitaries and honourees from different sectors were also present at the event.
