Motorists and commuters faced heavy traffic on Wednesday morning after a truck overturned on Otedola Bridge along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, inward Lagos.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) advised drivers to use alternative routes while recovery and traffic management efforts continued.
A truck carrying two 20‑foot containers overturned on Otedola Bridge at about 7:00 a.m., according to LASTMA officials. The vehicle blocked approximately 90 percent of the roadway, leaving only one lane open for motorists.
LASTMA deployed officers to manage traffic flow and assist stranded commuters. A recovery vehicle was sent to remove the fallen truck and clear the expressway, the authority said.
Otedola Bridge is a key section of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that links major commercial and residential areas.
Previous incidents on the bridge have caused traffic delays and required emergency responses from traffic and rescue agencies.
In recent months, multiple truck-related accidents on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway have affected road users’ movement.
In January 2026, another overturned truck on the same bridge caused severe gridlock, with motorists seeking alternate routes as congestion stretched back toward the Berger axis.
Traffic agencies have historically intervened in similar situations. LASTMA has managed past collisions involving heavy vehicles that led to extended delays and lane closures.
- The overturned truck on Wednesday blocked the majority of the carriageway on the inward Lagos side of Otedola Bridge.
- LASTMA officials were on the scene to direct traffic and provide assistance to affected motorists.
- A recovery unit was dispatched to remove the truck and clear the expressway.
LASTMA advised motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid delays while recovery operations were ongoing. The authority said its officers would coordinate traffic management to ease congestion in the affected area.
Commuters were encouraged to follow instructions from traffic officials and plan journeys to minimise disruption due to the obstruction on the expressway.
