A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died after being struck by a NSCDC operational vehicle during a drill in Enugu State, the command confirmed on Wednesday.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is a paramilitary agency tasked with protecting lives and property and assisting in maintaining internal security.
Training and practice drills are regularly conducted within commands to enhance operational readiness and safety procedures.
The NSCDC Enugu State Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said the incident occurred during a practice session on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters.
Amaraizu identified the deceased as Corporal Joy Ani, a serving officer attached to the command.
According to the command spokesman, Ani died after being hit by a NSCDC operational vehicle driven by a colleague during a practice session.
Amaraizu said the driver of the vehicle was assisting at the practice when the incident occurred. He added that Ani was immediately taken to hospital where she was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The spokesman said the corpse of Ani had been deposited at a morgue pending further directives from the family.
Amaraizu stated that the command is conducting an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the incident.
The NSCDC Enugu Command has initiated an internal investigation to determine the exact factors that led to the collision during the practice session. Results of the inquiry are expected to be communicated by the command in due course.
