The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chairmanship candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election has accepted the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Maikalangu, in the February 21, 2026 election.
Mr Eze Chukwu made the acceptance in a statement issued to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
In his statement, Chukwu said he would not challenge the outcome of the election “for any reason whatsoever,” noting that elections are about service, not personal ambition.
He congratulated Maikalangu, who was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the collation of results from polling units across AMAC.
Chukwu described the election as peaceful and orderly, and said the safety recorded during the campaign and on election day was “a victory for democracy.”
He said that although APGA did not win in AMAC, elections remain a means to serve the people and that service could not be forced.
Chukwu, who is also the APGA National Youth Leader and chairman of the Forum of National Youth Leaders of All Political Parties in Nigeria, urged any aggrieved persons to seek redress only through lawful means.
He pledged support for initiatives that would ensure the success of the incoming administration in AMAC.
He also congratulated Maikalangu and urged him to be magnanimous in victory by governing with humility and inclusiveness.
Chukwu reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, good governance, and community development, saying service to society was not limited to holding public office.
According to INEC figures, Maikalangu received 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast in the AMAC chairmanship election.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate placed second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate polled 3,398 votes and Chukwu’s APGA scored 1,111 votes.
The FCT Area Council elections were held across six councils on February 21, 2026. The APC won chairmanship seats in several councils, with the PDP winning one other council.
Chukwu commended AMAC residents for their peaceful conduct during the election and prayed for the council’s continued progress under the newly declared chairman.
