FG Says Enugu Airport Could Be First in Planned Concession Programme

The Federal Government of Nigeria has indicated that Enugu International Airport may be the first airport to be concessioned under its planned airport privatisation initiative, The Vanguard reports.

The statement was made by Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Keyamo spoke at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he addressed the planned concession of selected federal airports.

He said the government’s intention is to invite private sector participation in airport management through concession agreements and that Enugu International Airport may be prioritised in the initial phase.

The minister said the concession programme would aim to improve airport services and infrastructure. He also noted that the process would be conducted in accordance with relevant government policies and regulatory frameworks.

Mr Bernard O. Olabisi, Director General of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), spoke at the same event. He outlined the council’s role in facilitating cargo operations and supply chain efficiency at airports.

He said the NSC would support efforts to enhance cargo handling and logistics performance at concessioned airports.

Keyamo highlighted the need for modern airport infrastructure to meet increasing passenger and cargo demands. He said collaboration with the private sector through concessions is expected to attract investments to improve facilities.
