The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says it will strengthen how it includes corps members with disabilities in its programmes, the scheme’s director‑general said at a workshop on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Brigadier‑General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director‑General of NYSC, spoke at the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Pre‑Orientation Workshop in Jos, where officials from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were present.

He said the move shows the NYSC wants to make sure no corps member is left out because of a disability.

The workshop is themed “Revamping the NYSC Orientation Course Experience as a Foundation for Impactful Service by Corps Members.”

This earlier training event helps NYSC leaders plan for the full orientation course that all corps members go through before their one‑year service.

General Nafiu said the inclusion plans are not just about following rules but about giving equal chance, dignity and respect to all corps members. He said the NYSC will use standard steps and protocols so people with disabilities can fully take part in orientation and in their service year.

He also said the orientation course must keep changing so it works well for today’s youth. The NYSC boss said training, planning and the way things are done at camps must match real needs, good international practices and how youth behave now.

Nafiu praised officials for the smooth running of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Exercise, saying teamwork and discipline helped make it successful.

He urged workshop participants to share ideas and come up with practical ways to make the NYSC experience better for everyone, especially those with special needs.

The workshop also includes discussions on new camp management ideas, technology use, practical skills training and ways to work better with partners to strengthen the NYSC’s impact across the country.

The NYSC’s push to improve inclusion aligns with wider national efforts to support people with disabilities and ensure they have fair access to programmes and opportunities in all parts of society.
