The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has confirmed that its investigation involving Farouk Ahmed will continue, despite the decision by Aliko Dangote to withdraw a petition linked to the matter.

The anti-corruption agency clarified its position following public discussions around Dangote’s decision to step back from the case. Officials said the withdrawal does not stop the commission from carrying out its statutory responsibility once allegations with public interest implications have been raised.

According to the commission, “the withdrawal of a petition does not automatically terminate an investigation, especially where issues of public interest are involved.” The ICPC noted that its mandate allows it to pursue cases independently of complainants once preliminary reviews establish grounds for further inquiry.

Farouk Ahmed, whose role has drawn attention within regulatory and policy circles, remains under investigation as the commission reviews documents, official records, and relevant transactions connected to the case. The ICPC has not disclosed full details of the allegations but stated that its actions are guided by existing laws and procedures.

Dangote’s decision to withdraw his petition earlier sparked speculation about the future of the probe. However, the commission’s statement signals that the matter extends beyond private complaints and into broader regulatory and governance concerns.

Anti-corruption advocates have welcomed the clarification, saying it reinforces the principle that investigations should not depend solely on the continued interest of private individuals. They argue that sustained institutional action is necessary to maintain public confidence in accountability processes.

The ICPC also reiterated its commitment to due process, stating that all parties involved would be treated fairly and that conclusions would be based strictly on evidence gathered during the investigation.

Observers note that the case highlights ongoing debates around regulatory oversight, corporate influence, and the independence of anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria. Youth groups and civic organisations have continued to follow the development closely, particularly on digital platforms where governance issues attract significant attention.

The commission has indicated that updates will be provided as investigations progress, in line with legal requirements and transparency standards.
