The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has reported that tax revenue in 2025 reached ₦28.3 trillion, representing a 30 percent increase compared with the ₦21.7 trillion collected in 2024, the agency said on Wednesday.
The Executive Director, Government and Large Taxpayers, Hajiya Amina Kurawa, disclosed the figures in Abuja while presenting the 2025 performance report at the NRS Leadership Retreat for senior management staff, the agency said.
According to the NRS, the ₦28.3 trillion collected in 2025 exceeded the Federal Government’s target of ₦25.2 trillion by about 12 percent, the report said.
The agency’s quarterly performance showed:
- 96.9 percent of the first-quarter target achieved
- 129.7 percent in the second quarter
- 131.9 percent in the third quarter
- 90.4 percent in the fourth quarter
The measures underscoring the annual total were attributed to stronger compliance and an increase in voluntary filings, the agency said.
Kurawa said that despite a dip in the fourth quarter, the year ended with strong performance driven by improved compliance and voluntary filings.
She spoke during the leadership retreat where the agency reviewed its operations and revenue outcomes.
The NRS leadership retreat provided a platform for government revenue officials to assess performance metrics and outline future revenue goals.
The authority highlighted the growth in tax collections as part of ongoing efforts to enhance domestic revenue mobilisation.
The 30 percent year-on-year increase indicates a significant rise in revenue collection compared with 2024 figures.
