The Nigerian Senate has announced an emergency plenary sitting for Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the legislature said in a statement on Sunday.
The announcement was made by the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, and released to the public ahead of the planned session.
The statement said all senators have been requested to attend the session, which is set to begin at 12:00 noon at the Senate Chamber in Abuja. It was signed on the directive of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
The Senate’s decision to convene on Tuesday comes days after it passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 and adjourned plenary.
During its earlier deliberations, the Senate considered various amendments to electoral legislation, including provisions related to the electronic transmission of election results.
The Senate had adjourned plenary to allow time for the defence of the 2026 budget estimates by ministries, departments and agencies.
The emergency session was scheduled before the previously announced resumption date to address emerging matters concerning the Electoral Act amendment process.
In the notice sent to senators, the Clerk of the Senate said the emergency sitting was convened on the instruction of the Senate leadership. He wrote that senators were expected to be present for the session at the specified time.
