The Oyo State Police Command says it has intercepted a truck carrying materials suspected to be explosive devices during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation in Saki, in the Oke Ogun area of the state.

The driver has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police said operatives acting on credible intelligence stopped the truck on Sunday and discovered items they believe may be explosive devices inside. The vehicle and the suspected materials have been taken into police custody for further action.

The Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, ordered a comprehensive investigation immediately after the interception.

Specialised units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, were deployed to secure the materials safely and begin forensic examination to determine their precise nature and intended use.

Police said the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators as part of efforts to unravel all circumstances around the incident.

Authorities assured residents that all necessary safety measures are being taken to prevent potential threats and to gather evidence for prosecution. They also urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue.

Police say they will continue forensic analysis and investigations to determine the exact contents and purpose of the intercepted materials. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
