The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged party members to prioritise unity and uphold institutional discipline, and it expressed support for the National Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman, party officials said on Monday in Abuja.
The call was made at the 85th meeting of the PDP BoT held in the federal capital, where members discussed the party’s internal challenges and the need to comply with court orders on leadership issues.
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the PDP BoT, said the BoT backs the Abdulrahman‑led National Caretaker Committee, which is seen as aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in guiding the party through its current phase of internal turbulence.
Ohuabunwa described the period as critical for the PDP, and he urged elders and senior party figures to act as stabilising influences while respecting the rule of law and existing legal processes.
The BoT chairman also defended the delays in conducting the party’s congresses, saying the pauses were intended to protect the party’s legal standing pending judicial outcomes rather than signal neglect of responsibilities.
During the address, Ohuabunwa highlighted a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan that affirmed the legal standing of the Abdulrahman‑led National Caretaker Committee.
He said party elders should encourage respect for court decisions and lawful conduct within the PDP.
The BoT chairman warned that ongoing internal discord could weaken the party if not checked, emphasising that unity and institutional discipline are essential for organisational resilience.
Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, National Chairman of the caretaker committee, thanked the BoT for its support. He said the party must now move beyond legal contests toward active reorganisation and implementation of its mandate.
Abdulrahman said the committee would soon release a timetable for congresses in states where they remain outstanding. These activities are intended to pave the way for a smooth National Convention, he added.
The PDP’s Board of Trustees has called for unity among party members while endorsing the Mohammed Abdulrahman‑led National Caretaker Committee and urging compliance with legal directives.
The party leadership said greater cohesion will help strengthen the PDP’s position ahead of future political engagements.
