The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) says it received 3,300 complaints about noise pollution in 2025. These complaints formed part of 8,437 environmental cases recorded across the state last year, the agency said on Wednesday in Lagos.

LASEPA said the data shows noise pollution was the most reported environmental concern in the state in 2025. Other environmental issues recorded include waste management problems, air pollution, water contamination and unauthorised land use, officials added.

The agency noted that excessive noise can affect hearing, sleep and mental well-being if it goes unchecked. LASEPA urged residents and businesses to follow state laws that set limits on noise levels at homes, markets, industrial zones and entertainment spots.

Officials said LASEPA responded to noise complaints by issuing warnings and fines where violations were confirmed. They said the agency also carried out public awareness campaigns on noise control and environmental hygiene during the year.

Other Environmental Cases in 2025

  • 8,437 total environmental cases recorded in 2025.
  • Noise pollution complaints: 3,300.
  • Other issues: waste, air and water quality, unauthorised land use.

LASEPA’s Director-General, Mr. Olanrewaju Durojaye, said residents must avoid activities that breach environmental laws on noise and pollution. He said everyone has a role to play in keeping Lagos clean and healthy.

The agency pledged to step up patrols and enforcement this year. It also said it will increase public education on environmental protection and pollution control.

Environmental advocates say reducing noise and other pollution will improve quality of life and help protect residents from health risks linked to poor environmental conditions.
