The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hassan Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The declaration followed the collation of results from polling units across the council.

INEC officials said that Ishaku secured the highest number of valid votes cast in the chairmanship race, surpassing his rivals. The commission’s collation officers announced the certified results shortly after final tallies were completed in the council’s collation centre in Bwari.

The results issued by INEC indicated that Ishaku received more votes than candidates from other registered political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The exact figures were provided on the commission’s official result sheets at the council collation centre.

INEC officials overseeing the polls in the FCT described the voting as generally peaceful and orderly. Voters accredited through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) were able to cast ballots across the council’s polling units.

Temporary challenges such as delayed openings of some units were noted but did not halt the overall process.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies were deployed across Bwari Area Council to ensure the safety of voters and officials during the exercise. Law enforcement officers remained at key points throughout election day.

After the collation of results, the presiding officers confirmed that Ishaku obtained the majority of valid votes cast for the council chairmanship position.

INEC then issued a formal declaration in his favour, showing him as the duly elected chairman of Bwari Area Council.
