A fire razed a one-storey commercial building in the Computer Village area of Ikeja, Lagos State in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The blaze destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira and left one firefighter with minor injuries.

The fire was reported at about midnight at Number 3, Osundairo Street, off Medical Road, in the popular technology market where dealers sell computers and accessories. Eyewitnesses said the building was engulfed in flames, and the entire top floor was completely razed by the blaze.

Responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived after a distress alert. They contained the fire before it spread to neighbouring buildings in the densely packed market.

No deaths were recorded in the incident. One official of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service sustained minor injuries during firefighting and was treated on site by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

Following the blaze, LASEMA conducted a risk assessment and cordoned off the area around the scene to ensure safety while continuous damping-down operations were ongoing.

The affected building was mainly used for storage and sale of computers and related accessories. Traders and residents lamented the loss of goods and livelihoods as items stored in the structure were destroyed.

Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the goods and properties worth several millions of naira were completely destroyed and that the structure was now partially compromised, requiring immediate structural assessment.

Investigations Underway

Authorities have said the immediate and remote causes of the fire have not yet been determined, and that investigations have begun to establish why the blaze occurred and how to prevent future incidents in the market.

Emergency readiness: The response highlights the role of state emergency services in containing urban fire incidents.

Traders and affected shop owners are assessing the full extent of their losses. Regulatory and emergency agencies will continue investigations to determine the cause of the fire and recommend improved safety measures and protocols for commercial structures.
