Benson was born on February 7, 1935. She is an American-Liberian and Nigerian entrepreneur, social figure and former university administrator. She holds the traditional chieftaincy title Iya Oge of Lagos, a role that recognises her influence in fashion, society and culture in the city.
Her career spanned teaching, fashion and business. She has managed a fashion and beauty school in Lagos and previously served as a director at Johnson’s Products, the Nigerian affiliate of a multinational brand. In 2012, Benson was appointed Honorary Consul of Liberia in Lagos.
She was married to T.O.S. Benson from 1962 until his death and has been a well-known figure in Nigerian social and cultural circles for decades.
