President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that election results are not determined or concluded on social media platforms, but at designated polling units and collation centres, according to a statement issued by his office on Friday, February 27, 2026.

The statement followed the Area Council elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other elections across the country earlier in the week.

The statement quoted Tinubu as emphasising the importance of official electoral processes and the legal framework that governs elections in Nigeria.

It said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is solely responsible for the collation and declaration of election results in line with the country’s electoral laws.

The President reiterated that candidates, political parties and citizens should rely only on INEC’s certified results and not on information circulating on social networks or messaging platforms.

The statement noted that premature claims about election outcomes should be avoided until results are officially released and validated by the electoral body.

Tinubu’s office said the President underscored the need for all political actors to respect Nigeria’s electoral laws and processes.

The statement called on political parties, candidates and the electorate to remain patient and allow INEC to complete its statutory responsibilities for result collation and announcement without interference.

The statement also said the government supports the independence of INEC in conducting elections and processing results. It noted that official procedures include verification at polling units and transmission to collation centres before final determination.
