Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited has announced a new marketing model aimed at integrating independent depot owners and major marketers into its distribution system.

The refinery said the initiative is designed to broaden participation in the oil downstream sector and improve the movement of refined petroleum products throughout Nigeria.

During a market engagement session held at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, officials of the refinery outlined the structure of the new marketing approach.

The refinery said the model will allow depot owners and major marketers to participate in the handling and distribution of products such as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).

Mr Farouk Ahmed, Head of Sales and Distribution at Dangote Refinery, said the objective of the initiative is to create an ecosystem where depot owners and major marketers can efficiently off-take products from the refinery and distribute them to retail outlets.

He explained that the refinery will provide volume allocations and delivery schedules to accredited downstream partners.

The refinery said the engagement session drew representatives from multiple depot outfits and marketing firms who discussed logistics, volume off-take agreements, and compliance requirements under the new model.

Participants emphasised the need for operational transparency, safe product handling and shared infrastructure usage.

Mr Ahmed said accredited partners will receive delivery windows and scheduled allocations based on terminal capacity and product availability. He also outlined plans for periodic reviews of allocations in response to market demand.

Dangote Refinery said the new marketing framework seeks to support increased product availability nationwide by leveraging the networks of depot owners and major marketers across Nigeria.

The refinery said it will work with partners to streamline distribution to various zones and states. The company said it intends to align product offtake with logistical capacity at distribution hubs.

The refinery noted that participation in the scheme will require compliance with applicable regulatory standards and internal operational criteria, including licensing requirements, product quality assurance and safety protocols.

Officials said the marketing model will be implemented in collaboration with relevant government agencies, including the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), to ensure adherence to industry regulations.

The refinery said it will also engage with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on compliance matters.
