The Cross River State House of Assembly has removed Mr. Anthony Esin, the Vice Chairman of Obubra Local Government Area, from office over allegations of misconduct.

The action was taken during the plenary sitting of the Assembly on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

The Assembly resolved the matter following a motion moved by Hon. Effiom Eyo, representing Obubra State Constituency.

The motion called for Esin’s removal from office on grounds of alleged misconduct, including dereliction of duty, abuse of office and financial irregularities.

Lawmakers considered the motion in plenary and approved it by a majority voice vote. Mr. John Owan Enoh, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, announced that Esin’s tenure as Vice Chairman had been terminated with immediate effect following the resolution.

During the plenary session, lawmakers detailed allegations against Esin, including accusations of persistent absence from duty posts, failure to perform statutory functions and actions described as contrary to the Local Government Law.

The Assembly said it also cited financial misconduct in the operative committees’ report presented to members.

Speaker John Owan Enoh said Esin’s removal followed due consideration of evidence presented by members and reports from relevant committees of the Assembly.

The Speaker said the action was taken in line with provisions of the Local Government Law and the constitution.

He did not disclose details of any further investigation or legal process involving the former vice chairman.

With the removal of Esin from office, the Assembly said arrangements would be made to ensure continuity of administrative activities in Obubra Local Government. The House directed that appropriate actions be taken to fill the vacancy in accordance with statutory provisions.
