Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved N398.2 million for the 2026 Ramadan feeding programme and Tafsir initiative.

The funding is intended to support vulnerable residents across the state during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to officials.

The financial approval was made by the governor on Friday, February 20, 2026 and will be implemented by the Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re‑Orientation.

The programme will operate in 130 feeding centres located across all 17 local government areas of the state, up from 101 centres in the previous year.

Of the total funds, over N338 million is allocated for procurement of rams and cooking condiments to facilitate feeding at the centres.

N60 million is earmarked for payment of allowances to Muslim clerics who will conduct Tafsir sessions, religious teaching sessions, during Ramadan.

As part of preparations, the state government will distribute 2,300 bags of rice and 400 jerrycans of cooking oil to the designated feeding centres.

These items are intended to support daily Iftar meals, the meal with which Muslims break their fast each evening.

At the flag‑off of the distribution exercise in Damaturu, Yusuf Umar, Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Re‑Orientation, acknowledged the governor’s decision to expand the programme.

He said the initiative has continued to provide support to many families across Yobe State.

Umar stressed the importance of transparency in the programme’s implementation. He said officials overseeing the feeding centres must handle materials responsibly in line with government guidelines.

Under the arrangement, each feeding centre will provide Iftar meals for 100 persons daily throughout the month of Ramadan.

Thousands of residents are expected to benefit from the feeding programme across the state’s local government areas.
