The Ukwa La Ngwa community in Abia State has donated ₦100 million to facilitate the nomination form for Governor Alex Otti’s re‑election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship election, community and government sources said on Saturday.

The contribution was announced at a grand civic reception held in the governor’s honour at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, where traditional rulers, community leaders and residents gathered to celebrate Otti’s leadership and pledge support for his second term ambition.

The donation was disclosed in a statement by Njoku Ukoha, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, while Emmanuel Emeruwa, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and Chairman of the civic reception steering committee, said the amount was collectively raised by the Ukwa La Ngwa people. He added that the group was prepared to contribute further if necessary.

Governor Otti thanked the community for the endorsement and financial support. He said the warm reception and backing of residents were encouraging and reinforced his commitment to governance that prioritises the people’s interests.

“One thing you can take home is that because this is your government, your interest will always come first,” the governor said during the event, emphasising that his administration was focused on service delivery rather than partisan celebration.

Otti used the occasion to outline ongoing and forthcoming projects in the state. He announced that the Ovom Road would be commissioned on February 25, and work on the Enyimba Hotel, a five‑star facility to be managed by Radisson Blu, would be flagged off on the same day.

The governor also urged residents, especially in Aba, to register for the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and participate fully in the electoral process, noting that greater voter registration would reflect the true strength of the state’s populace.

Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the reception was a demonstration of the people’s verdict on Otti’s performance.

He urged Abians to protect their mandate and resist any attempts to subvert their will in the 2027 polls.

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, and Darlington Nwokocha, National Secretary of the Labour Party, who highlighted Otti’s achievements across various sectors as earning widespread support.

The leader and spokesperson of the Ukwa La Ngwa people, Chief Theo Nkire, described Otti as “a great achiever” and credited him with transforming Aba into a world‑class industrial hub.” Traditional rulers also reiterated their backing for the governor’s re‑election ambition.
