The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has processed 230 applicants on the first day of its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom.

The Service disclosed this on Tuesday while providing an update on the ongoing NIS UK exercise.

According to the immigration authorities, a brief technical problem had earlier disrupted biometric capturing at its Manchester Centre.

The issue occurred during the early hours of Monday but was promptly resolved, allowing the exercise to continue without further disruption.

The NIS said applicants with scheduled appointments were successfully attended to across its London and Manchester centres.

A total of 230 applicants had their biometric details captured on the opening day.

Of the figure, 90 applicants were processed at the London Centre.

Another 140 applicants were attended to at the Manchester Centre.

The Service provided the update through a statement published on its official X account.

It explained that the technical downtime had temporarily affected biometric operations, particularly at the Manchester location.

However, following its resolution, activities continued smoothly at both centres.

The NIS also expressed appreciation to applicants for their patience and understanding during the brief disruption.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a seamless and efficient passport application process throughout the NIS UK exercise.

The special intervention exercise is taking place in the United Kingdom to process applicants with booked appointments.

The successful processing of the first-day applicants indicates that biometric operations resumed after the technical difficulty was addressed.

The NIS did not disclose any further technical problems affecting the exercise as of the time of its update.

The Service also did not indicate that the disruption had resulted in the cancellation of scheduled appointments.

Applicants participating in the exercise are expected to continue following information and instructions issued through official NIS communication channels.

The agency said its priority remains ensuring an efficient passport application process for Nigerians participating in the exercise.
