The Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, has reaffirmed its unity and determination to produce the next Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland.
The declaration followed an enlarged meeting of princes and princesses of the Fusengbuwa ruling house held at Ile Nla, also known as Agunsebi, in Ijebu-Ode.
The meeting focused on the delayed process of selecting a successor to the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, whose death left the traditional stool vacant.
The gathering was co-chaired by the Chairman and Head of the ruling house, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi; Deputy Chairman, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba; and Vice Chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf.
During the meeting, the leadership briefed members from different units of the family on developments surrounding the succession process.
Members were also informed about legal measures being pursued to address the delay and protect the interests of the ruling house.
At the conclusion, participants endorsed earlier decisions taken by the leadership and expressed confidence in its handling of the succession process.
Speaking after the meeting, Owoyemi, a former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, said the gathering was convened to update members and explain steps being taken over the stalled process.
He described the attendance as evidence of unity within the family, noting that princes and princesses had travelled from Lagos and other locations to participate.
According to him, the Fusengbuwa ruling house remains united and determined to protect its position in the succession process.
The ruling house has previously approached the High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, seeking orders to compel the completion of the process for selecting the next Awujale.
The traditional stool became vacant in July 2025 following the death of Oba Adetona at the age of 91. He had spent 65 years on the throne.
The Ogun State Government had suspended the selection process in December 2025 over what it described as procedural concerns.
The government subsequently halted the process again in January 2026, citing petitions from security agencies and other stakeholders.
The latest position from the Fusengbuwa ruling house signals its continued push for the succession process to move forward, amid the unresolved issues surrounding the vacant throne.
The family leadership also warned against what it described as efforts to frustrate its participation in the process and prevent it from exercising what it considers its lawful turn to produce the next Awujale.
