The Presidency has clarified that the APC campaign council list for the 2027 presidential election remains valid despite recent controversy over its composition.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the list could be adjusted where necessary but had not been withdrawn or subjected to a wholesale review.

Dare spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

His comments followed reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had withdrawn the campaign council list amid concerns over the inclusion and exclusion of some party leaders and political figures.

The presidential aide, however, said the party had already clarified that the list remained in place.

“As it is with every other list, there’s a room for subcommittees. Those subcommittees have not been formed, and so many other names will come into that subcommittee,” Dare said.

He added that the list was not “cast in stone” and could therefore accommodate changes as the campaign structure develops.

Dare specifically rejected the description of the changes as a review.

Asked whether the list was open to review, he said the expected changes should instead be regarded as adjustments.

“Not a review, just adjustments where necessary,” he said.

When pressed further on the distinction, Dare explained that a review would imply a comprehensive reconsideration of the entire structure.

“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale,” he stated.

According to him, the creation of additional subcommittees would allow more APC members and political stakeholders to participate in the campaign organisation.

The APC announced the APC campaign council over the weekend as part of preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

President Tinubu was named chairman of the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were listed as vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdul’aziz Yari, was named Director-General.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was designated secretary.

The composition of the council subsequently generated reactions within political circles, particularly over the absence or inclusion of certain party leaders and political figures.

The APC on Tuesday dismissed reports that the list had been withdrawn.

Dare’s clarification further reinforced the party’s position, while acknowledging that changes could still be made as the campaign structure expands.

The Presidency maintained that such adjustments would be part of the normal process of organising the campaign ahead of the 2027 election rather than a wholesale restructuring of the council.
