The All Progressives Congress, APC, has secured all 13 chairmanship and 171 councillorship seats contested in the Ebonyi LG election. The results were announced by the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, Patrick Enyi, at the commission’s office on Onwe Road, Abakaliki. The sweeping victory gave the ruling party control of all the local government councils contested in the election.
Among the chairmanship candidates declared winners was Osborn Umahi, son of Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who emerged chairman-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area. Other declared winners included Peace Agwu in Ishielu, Paul Ituma in Ohaukwu, Friday Nwuhuo in Ezza North and Chinedu Mkpuma in Ezza South.
Chidi Nwode was declared winner in Ikwo, while Timothy Nwachi won in Afikpo. Ikechukwu Ogbofia emerged in Onicha, Michael Kalu Anyim in Ivo and Simeon Onuoha in Edda. The commission also declared Helen Aduga winner in Izzi, Chidiebere Alo in Abakaliki and Chibueze Odigwe in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
Speaking after announcing the results, Enyi described the election as peaceful, free and fair. He noted that political parties other than the APC also participated in the exercise.
The EBSIEC chairman commended voters for turning out to exercise their constitutional rights and praised security agencies for providing support throughout the electoral process. The outcome of the Ebonyi LG election therefore handed the APC complete control of the 13 local government chairmanship positions and all 171 councillorship seats.
Reacting to his victory, Osborn Umahi commended EBSIEC for what he described as the transparent and peaceful conduct of the election. The chairman-elect pledged to focus on rural development, youth empowerment and agricultural transformation during his tenure. He said his administration would prioritise programmes capable of improving opportunities and living conditions across Ohaozara.
The APC Chairman in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro Emegha, described the result as evidence of the party’s political dominance in the state. Emegha said the outcome reflected what he considered growing acceptance of the APC among Ebonyi residents.
He expressed confidence that the party would replicate the performance during the 2027 general elections. The result of the Ebonyi LG election consequently provides the APC with a significant political advantage as attention gradually shifts towards the next general elections.
