President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Senator Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.
The Yakubu Jang appointment was announced on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima during the public presentation of Senator Jonah Jang’s autobiography and activities commemorating his 80th birthday in Jos, Plateau State. Delivering President Tinubu’s goodwill message, Shettima made the announcement before a gathering of political leaders, dignitaries and guests from across the country.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President,” the Vice President declared.
The announcement was met with prolonged applause as attendees rose to congratulate members of the Jang family. Although the specific portfolio assigned to Yakubu Jang was not disclosed, Shettima said the appointment reflected President Tinubu’s confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to national development through public service.
The Yakubu Jang appointment coincided with celebrations marking the 80th birthday of Senator Jonah Jang, bringing together political leaders across party lines to honour his decades of public service.
The event, held in Jos, attracted former President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, senior military officers, diplomats, religious leaders and other distinguished guests.
Senator Jang was celebrated for his contributions as a Nigerian Air Force officer, former Military Administrator of Benue State, two-term Governor of Plateau State and former senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of Jang’s autobiography titled “From Soldiering to Politics: Here I Stand.” The book chronicles his journey from military service into politics, offering personal reflections on his experiences in governance and public service.
In separate goodwill messages, Vice President Shettima and former President Jonathan described the elder statesman as a patriot, bridge-builder and leader whose commitment to service has inspired generations of Nigerians. The celebration drew political associates, family members, friends and supporters from within and outside Plateau State, making it one of the largest gatherings of political leaders in the state in recent years.
