The INEC recruitment 2026 exercise has officially commenced, with the Independent National Electoral Commission inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for several entry-level positions across multiple departments and salary grade levels. According to a recruitment notice published by the commission, the online application portal opened on Monday, July 20, and will remain available until Monday, July 27, giving interested candidates a limited window to complete their applications.
The commission said the recruitment exercise is aimed at strengthening its workforce to improve electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics, data management and other operational responsibilities required for conducting credible elections nationwide.
The INEC recruitment 2026 exercise covers positions within three major categories across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12. For the Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12), vacancies include: Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer, Quantity Surveyor
Applicants for these positions must possess a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. Some specialised roles may also require a master’s degree from a recognised institution.
Candidates are expected to possess relevant professional certifications where applicable, including qualifications from organisations such as the NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS, ICAN, ANAN or CPN. They must also have at least two years of post-qualification experience, a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and demonstrate strong communication, analytical and ICT skills.
For the Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) position on Grade Level 08, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences.
They must also present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate and demonstrate competence in record keeping, data management and the use of Microsoft Office and other digital applications.
Applicants seeking appointment as Executive Officer (Registration Officer) on Grade Level 07 are required to possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution, alongside basic computer knowledge and organisational skills.
INEC stated that applicants must satisfy the following conditions before applying: possess a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government, be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer, be 35 years old or younger at the time of application, have no criminal record, be willing to serve in any part of Nigeria, demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
Interested applicants are required to complete the INEC recruitment 2026 process through the commission’s online recruitment portal. Candidates must create an applicant account using their personal information, valid email address and National Identification Number (NIN), verify their email, select their preferred cadre and upload all required documents.
Required documents include a passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, academic certificates, local government identification certificate and NYSC certificate where applicable. Applicants are advised to carefully review their information before submitting their application, as the commission noted that selected vacancies cannot be changed after submission.
INEC emphasised that the recruitment exercise is conducted free of charge, warning applicants against paying money to any individual or organisation claiming to offer employment assistance.
The commission also cautioned candidates against submitting false information or forged documents, noting that anyone found guilty would be disqualified and could face prosecution. Only candidates successfully shortlisted after the application stage will be invited to participate in the subsequent phases of the recruitment process.
