The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 243 suspects linked to crimes including armed robbery, cultism, murder and traffic robbery within three months, as part of intensified efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed the figures while presenting a security performance report during the working visit of the South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, to the Command Headquarters in Ikeja. The latest figures highlight the scale of ongoing security operations and the growing impact of intelligence-led policing initiatives aimed at reducing crime in Lagos.
Providing details of the Lagos crime arrests, Fatai explained that the suspects were apprehended between March 26, 2026, when he assumed office, and June 2026. According to the commissioner, security operatives arrested:
- 71 armed robbery suspects
- 133 suspected cult members
- 35 murder suspects
- Four traffic robbery suspects
The arrests were made through coordinated intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and targeted raids conducted across various parts of the state. Fatai noted that the command has maintained a proactive approach to policing, enabling officers to identify criminal networks and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
Beyond the arrests, the command recorded major operational successes in disrupting criminal activities. The commissioner revealed that police operatives successfully foiled 28 armed robbery operations during the review period, preventing potential attacks on residents and businesses.
As part of the operations, security personnel recovered 60 firearms and 625 rounds of ammunition from suspected criminals. The recovered weapons, according to the police, were seized during raids, arrests and intelligence-driven operations targeting armed gangs and other criminal groups.
Speaking on the security situation in the state, Fatai said Lagos had witnessed a significant reduction in major crimes since March.
“Since my assumption of duty on March 26, 2026, the command has continued to record remarkable achievements by reducing the incidence of serious crimes such as cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, civil unrest, violent protests and attacks on government facilities to the barest minimum,” he said.
He added that whenever incidents occur, the command ensures prompt investigations and prosecution of suspects.
“Where intermittent cases of these crimes have occurred, they have been promptly investigated, with suspects arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the commissioner stated.
The achievements, he explained, were made possible through enhanced intelligence gathering, modern policing techniques and strategic crime-prevention measures.
Apart from tackling violent crimes, the command intensified traffic enforcement activities aimed at improving safety and order on Lagos roads. According to the commissioner:
- 122 vehicles were impounded for driving against traffic
- 1,058 motorcycles were seized for various traffic offences
- 1,541 vehicles were impounded for illegal use of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors
The enforcement measures form part of broader efforts to improve traffic management and reduce road-related violations across the state.
Despite the operational gains, Fatai acknowledged the sacrifices made by police personnel in the course of duty. He disclosed that seven officers lost their lives while carrying out security operations during the period under review. In addition, three other personnel sustained varying degrees of injuries while performing their responsibilities.
“These achievements have not come without sacrifices from some of our gallant officers and men. Seven personnel lost their lives in the line of duty, while three others sustained injuries,” he said.
The commissioner credited the achievements to collaboration between the police and key stakeholders. He specifically acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund and other partners. According to him, their support has strengthened the command’s ability to implement effective crime-fighting strategies and deploy modern policing tools.
The latest Lagos crime arrests report reflects the scale of security operations carried out by the Lagos State Police Command over the last three months. With 243 suspects arrested, 60 firearms recovered and 28 robbery operations foiled, the command says it will continue to strengthen intelligence-driven policing and sustain efforts to protect lives and property across Nigeria’s commercial capital.
