Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stated that the Labour Party is now LP stronger after crisis, declaring that the party has overcome its internal challenges and is prepared to field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections. He made this known during the inaugural meeting of the party’s newly elected National Working Committee in Abuja.
Otti said the party’s most difficult period had passed, noting, “The worst is over. We can’t see anything worse than what we have gone through.” He added that the party is now more united and focused on strengthening its internal structures.
He explained that the position of LP stronger after crisis reflects ongoing reconciliation efforts and renewed commitment among party members to rebuild cohesion and discipline ahead of future elections.
The Labour Party had experienced internal divisions that affected its leadership structure and operations. However, the emergence of a new National Working Committee, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, followed the party’s elective convention held on April 28 in Umuahia, Abia State.
Otti noted that the convention marked a turning point, describing it as peaceful and reflective of renewed unity within the party. He stressed that maintaining discipline and avoiding divisive actions would be critical to sustaining progress.
According to him, the party’s current position as LP stronger after crisis is the result of deliberate efforts to reconcile factions and reintegrate members who had previously disengaged.
The governor disclosed that reconciliation efforts were already yielding results, with over 25 state chairmen from opposing factions attending the convention. Some of them have since been integrated into the party’s leadership structure.
“There is no victor and no vanquished — everyone is a winner. Our focus now is reconciliation, reintegration, and building a stronger party,” Otti said. He also stated that the party’s doors remain open to all members, including those who had left during the crisis, emphasizing the need for collective rebuilding.
The assertion that the party is LP stronger after crisis was further reinforced by members of the new National Working Committee, who acknowledged Otti’s role in stabilising the party during its turbulent period.
Otti reaffirmed the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that it would present a credible and competitive presidential candidate. He noted that unity within the party would be key to achieving electoral success.
The development signals renewed positioning by the Labour Party within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as opposition parties continue to realign ahead of the next election cycle. Political observers note that internal stability and organisational cohesion will play a significant role in determining the party’s competitiveness in future elections.
