In a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, management explained that the organisers failed to provide adequate details about the event until Friday, a day before the scheduled lecture.
The institution stated that such short notice made it difficult to complete necessary logistical and security arrangements required for hosting a high-profile guest. It emphasised that events involving prominent figures require sufficient time for coordination with relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services.
According to the statement, “events involving high-profile personalities… require adequate prior notification” to ensure safety and proper planning. Management added that due to the inability to complete these arrangements within the limited timeframe, approval for the use of Oduduwa Hall was not granted.
The university further clarified that the OAU lecture venue rejection was based strictly on safety considerations and adherence to institutional protocols, not on the personality or status of the invited speaker.
