Borno APC endorses Tinubu as party stakeholders in the state formally backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement, made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Maiduguri, also featured an emotional appeal from Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who called for unity and reconciliation within the party.

The endorsement comes amid ongoing political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties and stakeholders begin early consultations and declarations of support for potential candidates.

Borno State has remained a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with key political figures in the state playing influential roles in national party dynamics. The state is also politically significant as the home state of Vice President Kashim Shettima. Endorsements by state chapters of political parties are often used to signal early consensus and mobilise grassroots support ahead of party primaries and national campaigns.

At the meeting held at the Government House in Maiduguri, critical stakeholders of the APC in Borno State unanimously endorsed the joint ticket of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 elections.

The endorsement followed a motion moved by the APC National Vice Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, which received widespread approval from party members present at the gathering.

Governor Babagana Zulum, while addressing stakeholders, became emotional and appealed for forgiveness from anyone who may have felt aggrieved during his administration. He stated that “Nigeria has no better ticket to support than Tinubu/Kashim’s second term bid.”

He also urged party members to remain committed to unity and peaceful political engagement, stressing the importance of collective effort in the electoral process. “Power is something that God gives to whom he wishes. No matter how much you dislike a person, if God gives it to him, he will get it,” Zulum said.

The governor further called on party loyalists to mobilise voters and strengthen support for the APC ahead of the elections. Other party leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, citing ongoing political support and party cohesion within the state.

The move where Borno APC endorses Tinubu signals early consolidation of support within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 election cycle. Such endorsements may influence political alignments in other regions and strengthen intra-party consensus.

The development also reflects the role of state-level stakeholders in shaping national political direction, particularly in regions with strong party loyalty. For the APC, the endorsement could contribute to early campaign momentum, while also reinforcing internal unity within the party structure.
