The price of aviation fuel, known as Jet‑A1, has risen by about 80 percent in Nigeria, increasing from roughly N1,000 to about N1,800 per litre, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has said. The group reported the change as domestic airlines face increased fuel costs.

Jet‑A1 fuel is the primary aviation turbine fuel used by commercial airlines for aircraft operations. Prices of aviation fuel influence the operating costs of airline companies, which depend on fuel supply at airports across the country.

Domestic airlines in Nigeria purchase Jet‑A1 at local depots and airports, and the price can vary widely due to supply, exchange rates and other factors that affect energy products.

The Airline Operators of Nigeria said the price of aviation fuel, which was about N1,000 per litre two weeks earlier, has climbed to about N1,800 per litre in various parts of Nigeria.

The reported increase represents an approximate 80 percent rise within a short period, according to the group.

The higher fuel price was noted at several airports and was confirmed to the media by representatives of airline operators during public statements.

The rise in Jet‑A1 prices directly affects the cost structure of commercial airlines, as aviation fuel constitutes a significant portion of operating expenses for carriers. Higher fuel costs can influence airline financial planning and expenditure.

For domestic carriers, fuel constitutes a large share of operational costs, and changes in fuel pricing often feature in discussions about airline viability and route management.
