The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates for the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Political parties participating in the election are expected to commence campaign activities from March 11.
The final list of candidates, including their running mates, was attached to a letter dated March 4 and signed by the commission’s Secretary, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
The document confirms that 14 political parties will participate in the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
The electoral body had earlier announced August 8, 2026 as the election date but later shifted the poll to August 15 in its revised timetable for the exercise.
According to the final list published on INEC’s website, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Oyebamiji, selected Benjamin Adereti as his running mate.
Adereti was the party’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate for the Ife Federal Constituency.
Adereti replaces former state lawmaker Tunde Olatunji, who had earlier been submitted to the commission as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
The list also includes former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam, who is contesting on the platform of the African Democratic Congress. Salaam picked Yemisi Agiri as his running mate.
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is listed as the candidate of the Accord Party and retained the current deputy governor, Kola Adewusi, as his running mate for the election.
Other candidates listed include Adeyera Oluwabusola Adesola of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Abdulsalam Olamide of the Zenith Labour Party, and Bello Muideen Yekeen of the African Action Congress.
Notably, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party did not present candidates for the upcoming governorship election.
With the publication of the final list, political parties are expected to begin campaign activities across the state from March 11 as preparations intensify ahead of the August poll.
