The United States Embassy in Abuja has rescheduled visa and consular service appointments following security concerns linked to potential protests in Nigeria’s capital city.

The embassy announced that routine services would remain suspended until Monday, March 9, 2026.

In a public notice, the embassy explained that the decision was taken as a precaution due to the possibility of protests in the Federal Capital Territory. Officials stated that the mission would not conduct routine business during this period.

The measure affects visa interview appointments scheduled earlier in the week as well as some American Citizen Services appointments.

According to the embassy, visa interviews originally fixed for March 4 and March 5 have been moved to dates next week.

Appointments for American Citizen Services scheduled for March 5 were also rescheduled.

The mission advised applicants to monitor their email messages and their AVITS accounts for updates regarding new appointment dates.

In the notice, the embassy stated that visa applicants should check their inbox or their AVITS profile to confirm their updated appointment schedules.

Applicants who do not see a new appointment date were advised to contact the consular section through the Visa Navigator platform for assistance.

Similarly, individuals seeking American Citizen Services were asked to review their email for instructions related to their new appointment dates.

The temporary suspension affects individuals with scheduled visa interviews and other consular services in Abuja during the affected period.

The embassy did not announce any cancellation of services beyond the rescheduled appointments and indicated that operations are expected to resume after the stated date.
