The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally invited nine nominees for commissioner‑designate positions submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to appear for screening, the assembly said on Wednesday.

Under Nigeria’s constitutional framework, state governors nominate individuals for commissioner positions, subject to screening and confirmation by the respective state Houses of Assembly.

Commissioners serve in the governor’s executive council and supervise ministries and agencies at the state level.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly said the nine nominees submitted by Governor Fubara have been invited to appear before the legislative panel for screening on March 24, 2026.

The nominees were presented to the assembly by the Speaker, and invitations for their screening were issued accordingly.

The list includes individuals nominated to lead key ministries and departments in the Rivers State executive council.

The assembly’s invitation directs the commissioner‑designates to appear before relevant committees for assessment and questioning on their competence and suitability for the respective portfolios.

The screening is part of the process that may lead to confirmation and subsequent swearing‑in of the nominees as commissioners in the state government.

The scheduled screening will allow the Rivers State House of Assembly to assess the qualifications, experience, and policy perspectives of each nominee before advancing to confirmation votes. Successful nominees may be confirmed and appointed to lead ministries.
