A representative of a Nigerian manufacturing group has commended the launch of the United Nigeria Distribution Support initiative, saying it can help reposition the country’s manufacturing sector by expanding market access for locally made products.

The Nigerian manufacturing sector contributes to economic growth and job creation through the production of goods for domestic consumption and export.

Challenges such as limited market access, distribution bottlenecks, and competition from imported products have historically constrained growth prospects for local manufacturers.

The United Nigeria Distribution Support initiative, known as “UNIDOS,” was recently launched to support distribution and retail of locally manufactured products across Nigeria.

At the launch event in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Ezeife Okeke, Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria’s National Economic Council, praised UNIDOS for its potential to assist manufacturers in expanding their reach to markets beyond major urban centres.

Okeke said the initiative was established to create efficient distribution networks that help local producers connect with retailers and end consumers.

He noted that manufacturing requires effective supply and distribution chains to ensure that products made in Nigeria are readily available in markets nationwide.

Okeke also said stronger distribution channels could contribute to increased sales volumes for Nigerian manufacturers, supporting business growth and competitiveness.

The UNIDOS initiative was presented as a collaboration involving manufacturers, distribution networks, and other stakeholders with the objective of improving the flow of locally made goods to diverse markets.

Stakeholders participating in the launch said the initiative will work with manufacturers to strengthen distribution linkages and allow more efficient access to retail outlets.

Pending operationalisation, manufacturers and partners will engage to implement distribution strategies under UNIDOS.
